Hyde Park and the U of C area SYMBOLIZES the hypocracy that Al Sharpton represents. Obama used to haunt that area when he worked as an attorney for slumlords. I wouldn't be surprised if Al Sharpton had a summer home there, given that all the other corrupt "reverends" frequent the liberal halls of U of C on a regular basis.

Did not want to start a thread by itself.

My question is.. are there "interesting" things to do in the Beginning of January? that is not a religious holiday? Lol

Well, it still stays pretty interesting during January in Hyde Park. But you have to remember that the UofC is predominantly a graduate school. So its version of 'interesting' will probably be different than that of other colleges.

I disagree about south of the midway. Those are the biggest and best university apartments I've seen. While south of the midway is still isolated from shopping, the University is expanding to the south and there will allegedly be some first-floor retail space on 61st street. It's a very short bike ride to the lake or the shops from those buildings. If you have a car then it's even less isolated.

Some university buildings allow pets, check their site. North of the midway, Piccaddily has some nice apartments with great views. Max Mason is heinous.

The university housing is good and they are easy to deal with. If you are just moving here by showing up and immediately finding a place, that will be the easiest thing to do.

Some Ph.D. students who will be there for a long time purchase condos, the cost is comparable to renting.

What's the story on Max Mason? I'm moving in there in a few weeks and have very little info on what it's like besides the exterior shot and the blueprints of the rooms.
