So I was recently accepted to the University of Illinois at Chicago and am currently debating whether I am going to attend it or not. I'm from out of state, Pennsylvania actually, so I am completely unfamiliar with the area. However I will be driving out in the near future before I decide, to see for myself, but I was just wondering if anybody had any opinions on the school and area in general.

Does this school have an alright reputation? Is the area relatively safe? I'm from Reading, PA so i'm used to not so safe areas, however I am leaving my area for a reason and am not really trying to relocate to another ghetto area and was just curious as to how this part of Chicago is.

Well thanks in advance for any help!

NW is the only school out of those you listed with an engineering program

Another school is Illinois institute of Technology but its more expensive so he chose UIC to stretch out his GI bill further.

You will do fine there. There are many successful graduates of UIC. It does not have as good of a reputation as U of I downstate, but it is a respectable school. You might have somewhat of a culture shock because Chicago is so large. The area right to the west also known as "Little Italy" is relatively safe but other areas nearby might not be. Be careful about where you decide to live.

All the schools I listed do have engineering i believe.

Anyway, UIC is a fine school, it is probably where I will end up doing my masters.

I attended UIC and have several long time friends that have Bachelor's and Masters degrees from there.

UIC is a research orientated university.
The strength at UIC is the Graduate Degree programs.

One reason it can be a bit tough for an undergraduate student is because of the lack of large amounts of dorms. (Although it has far more undergraduate dorm rooms now than it did 20 years ago.)

This is very true. There are areas that are not too far away from UIC that are pretty scary. You have to do your homework on neighborhoods before you move...
