Maybe Mt.Greenwood is the only one left. Most whites in this country are European mixed up, not many 100% one nationality white people around. The ones that are usually 100% of one European group are the new arrivals and the older people past 50 like my Ukrainian professor. White Americans of Eastern and Southern European descent tend to be more culturally ethnic than those that are of Western Euro descent like German, Irish, and the English who been in the US longer.

Theres just as much diversity on the southside as there is on the northside (think about it....dont believe me...check the demographics) Quit bringing up the negatives... crime is everywhere, you acting like all we know is gangbangin.... South Chicago is home to me and it has just as much community pride as Atlanta and New York (I lived in Atlanta too so I would know)..... From one black man to another stop with the southside bashin ... please!!!! You hurtin yourself.....

That is terrible, however, very reminiscent of what other cultures - no I won't say other cultures....I mean to say "some people"... think about blacks. Therefore I gave my opinion why. It seems to me that nobody in Chicago is allowed to have an opinion that goes against praising this city. Tell me this, as big as the southside and west side are, why is their only 2 major book stores (Borders in Hyde Park and in Beverly)????????Answer that? The southside and the westside are not communities you want to live in if you have any real interests in life, now if you are a regular Joe who just goes to work, comes home locks the doors and stays in the house, never talks to the neighbors then fine this is where you belong. But a person likes me when I get off work I need more out of life, thats why I live up north. When I get home I can ride my bike on the lake, play volleyball, run, go to a cafe, bookstore, shopping, bakeries, walk the streets at night and hit several bars, clubs, restaurants, museums, art exhibits, bowling, pool, the possibilities are endless. Now when you look at it from that perspective this is why people trash the southside, not because of racial issues, but simply because the quality of life on the southside is awful in comparison to somewhere else. This is the reason why people would rather be roommates with a stranger on the north side as oppose to living by themself on the southside.
And by the way I am very much a black person.....but race has nothing to do with this....its about common sense and taste. And being black has nothing to do with liking or not liking "black neighborhoods" or Harolds chicken, or Bud Billiken parade, so dont go there....if you equate being black to accepting that then something is clearly wrong with you. The southside and the westside for the most part is pretty much rundown and crime infested and thats just the facts.

I think the real problem with you all is that they have an unrealistic level of pride. There is a thin line between pride and foolishness and so many south and west siders walk that line. Everyone I know from this city is so proud of it, why I have no clue? Here is a list of reasons why you people dont realize you look stupid for defending Chicago:

You can stick with your negative comments about the southside and if you don't like it then thats your opinion stick to whatever part of town you reside thats on you, it is what it is, but quit bashing a part of town where someone else has to live. By the way Ive lived on all three sides of town and Im not even a native to Chicago. You say the southside has no culture or activities.... Have you not heard of the Bud Billikan Parade, or the Dusable Museum, or Washington Park, need I go on???? Oh yeah and Garfield Park on the Westside. Theres so much culture on the southside you cant miss it. Go to 63rd Street Beach in the summer and see drummers in the park or check out the African American Festival in Washington Park... Go to numerous Southside nightclubs and you can learn the Southside version to ballroom dancing (a national phenomenon) Stepping.
