I'll take the counterpoint to the previous poster. If you're going to live in Chicago, don't move to an area near Midway Airport. There are folks here who will agree with me, but that area, as well as many other areas farther out from the Loop, are tough to get to and from (assuming you work in the Loop). The CTA is rough, but improving. The Metra is more efficient and better run. It has stops in the city, too. I ride it all the time.

Look around the city. Find an area NOT riddled with "crime and gangs and drugs". Honestly. To hear some posters on this board, you'd think neighborhoods are walled and guarded and that you need travel papers to enter and leave. If it's a crappy neighborhood, leave! If you want city living, there are plenty of places to get it safely and enjoyably. If you don't? Take care. We wish you well. I just see no reason to stand at a distance and hurl insults. Plenty of people make Chicago work and love it.

As for the healthcare issue, that's CA vs US, not Chicago vs Toronto.

I have lived in the city for a time, 4 years near Midway airport and thought my opinions would change, but they did not, I hated it and moved back to the suburbs, the far south suburbs, Homewood, and only come into the downtown area for work. When I lived by Midway I was much closer to my job downtown but it took me longer to get home on the CTA than it does now with me living in Homewood and taking the Metra and I am much farther away..

I would not live in Homewood if you paid me now. Twenty years ago sure. Talk about a sewer. Yeah, Homewood is perfect. lol
