In chicago you can get a beautiful apartment in a highrise overlooking the lake in Lincoln Park (which is generally considered the best area of the city for those seeking nightlife and urban lifetsyle) for that kind of money.

not to be patronizing but you do realize there are no mountain views in Chicago right? maybe you just copied and pasted the same thing on the Denver board?

Yeah, Chicago really is a study in just how mundane land can be.

Ba! Not when you look at dirt and rocks for three years in the desert. Chicago landscape looks pretty darn good!

Yes, yes, of course mountains always are more beautiful and majestic...

Well, I think the original makeup of the area is beautiful (forests, wetlands, and open prairie). Of course, that was all eliminated long ago for agriculture.

Thats what the dozens of forest preserves in the area are for.

If snowboarding and mountain biking are important to you, Chicago is not where you want to be.

There are many places to snowboard and mountain bike within a relatively short distance. SW WI has several snowboard parks and mountain bike trails, as does some areas in IL near Galena. Of course theyre nowhere near as grand as Aspen or Vail, but theyll do if you just need a fix and arent a professional. What people forget is that in Denver you have to drive a few hours to get to the mountain resorts, which are the best in the nation, but you still have to drive to get to them. Denver's area is very flat, its only out west that the Rockies become useful. Its not like you can open your back door in Denver and hop on a ski lift.

The snowboarding and mountain biking in Illinois and Wisconsin are a sad joke compared to Colorado. End of story.

i think Steve-o was pretty clear on that. he says they're good if "you need a fix and aren't a professional" His comment was meant to offer alternatives and something to consider, not suggest Illinois was a snowboarding haven.
