Wrong Western stop, I think. I'll be using the one on the BNSF line, just north of 55. Turns out I have a buddy who lives in the area and he's done all right. Hopefully I won't have to cover a night shift until I move a little closer to the place.

Really don't see how this relevant info.
The BNSF station at Western is at 18th St., Lake St is two miles north. You'd need to ride the #49 Western Ave bus for 15 STOPS!
There are some vacant / cleared lots and rusty warehouses right by the stop and then the N-S rail corridor west of Western that probably contributes nothing to the crime in the area but there are single family homes and apartment both south of Ogden and all along the east side of Western that probably do not attract a desirable mix of folks. I suppose the Pink Line might add to some activity, which is generally a positive in reducing the feeling of desolation, but with the defunct industrial sites I doubt there are many workers riding out to the area. Folks that work in the Medical Center district probably rely more on the Damen & Cermak or 18th & Paulina stops...

Yeah I misread. Chet. All you need to say is "Wrong stop, he meant the one in/near Pilsen." The OP caught on right away to my blunder.

That area IMO is still alright during the day. Night is a little different in my personal experience as you've caught onto, OP. The area again is industrial-ish with some SFH near the pink line as Chet pointed out. There's also a very good, expensive (but not white table cloth) restaurant in the area (El Ideas). Working at the movie studios are we?

Not the studios, but the brewery that just hired me is renting some of the space. Yep, I'm working for Lagunitas when they open.

What you said is pretty much consensus with what I've heard: fine during the day, but don't linger too long at night. Hopefully I won't have to work too many late hours before I'm able to move closer. I have a buddy that lives in the area, so I'm sure that will help.

Oh that's right. When is that supposed to open anyway? I want to check it out - especially the tap room. I have a relative that owns a small percentage of Lagunitas but he hasn't given me any information :\

Yeah interesting area. Just like in some parts of Pilsen - fine during the day and at night it gets dicier in a few parts.

If you're speaking about anything Pilsen, I live here and can speak about the crime--if that's what you're wondering about. I live pretty close to the Western BNSF Metra stop, Douglas Park, etc. I ride the train (L) multiple times a day.

I come home late, I leave early, and pretty much NEVER drive. I have never felt unsafe, in danger, or anything of the sort. My truck is parked on the street at all times for the most part and I have never had any issue with burglary, damage, theft anything of the sort to my truck or my property.

I love Pilsen... it's been good to me.

Probably because there is no info yet. We're not really sure when it opens, but I just know I'll be doing training until at least the end of the year.

And it's making me feel a little better to know that the area isn't a war zone.
