Hello! I am from Columbus, OH and am looking to relocate to Chicago for work. The job would be located in the West Loop Gate Area. It's located on W Van Buren, pretty close to the Sears Tower. I am looking for an area which is known as being faily safe, as it is just me. Commutting/public transportation would not be a problem, although I would like to be no more than a 45 minute commute if possible. Having restaurants and shops nearby would be nice. I'd like to stay under $1300. In asking around, I hear Lincoln Park, Lakeview and Old Town may be some good options. I was hoping for thoughts/opinions of these areas. I am open to other area recommendations! Any help is appreciated!

The areas you listed are good options. I think you could find some options in those areas depending on what you want. It will probably not afford you luxury, but yeah it's possible. Lakeview is probably the cheapest up there but the offerings of it are just as good if not better than the other two. I would also look at areas along the Brown Line train like Lincoln Square, Ravenswood, and North Center. You may also want to look at areas along the Blue Line like Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square, etc. Ravenswood, North Center, and Lincoln Square will be the cheapest options up there and they're very safe areas. Kind of a mix of mid 20s and older people and families. A little quieter than parts of Lakeview, Lincoln Park, etc but still solid areas with good options.

Agreed I would check out the blue line options mentioned above since that would swing you down to the Clinton station presumably near your office.
