So I am planning on moving to Chicago next year. Right now, my friend (who will be my roommate) and I are trying to get things together, and plan out what we need to go look at. We are planning on taking a trip out there to go check out colleges, and apartments.

We both will be going to different colleges. So living together ON campus would be a problem.

I have no idea where a good place is to live, that is relatively cheap.

Since we both will be in college, we won't be able to afford much.

We want to live in the city, so any advice on a nice apartment for 2 to live in would be much appreciated!

Thanks so much!

You both have to figure out where each of you want to go to school first.

There is no point looking at apartments until you figure out where you want to go to school.

Will you have cars?

SSHM:

Are these "hipsters" chopped up in garbage bags somewhere? If so you need to report it to the police.

Well I'm thinking of going to SAIC, and she'd be going to one of the Universities. We will have cars. Were thinking cheap as in $500-950.

I personally would avoid Garfield Park. you can do some research about the area and come up w/ your own conclusion, but I haven't heard many people consider Garfield Park as safe. if you have $900 to spend, you can find a 2 bedroom apartment in other, better locations.

$500-950 total? Or each?

There are several universities in Chicago, you need to specify.

You got money to park in school? $20 and up a day? Or are you taking the EL to risk getting shot/mugged/etc?
