I'm right on the point, actually, but you're not answering my question. If this supposed pride is not outwardly expressed, how exactly does it "seem to" exist to you? Are you reading people's minds? We're just asking how you came to this conclusion that nobody else here "seems to" share.

There's several topics on it within the Chicago subforum, any chance someone gets to invoke "corruption" with Chicago they do. Reminder that it's known for something besides the bulls.

Like I said, many think it's a throwback to the Capone days, you can disagree all you want.

I'm not sure how an internet message board is somehow the spokesperson for the average Chicagoan (or any city for that matter).

Where people are expressing pride about it? I see more expression of disgust and embarrassment about it here, and appropriately so.

Default There are some parallels but also some contrasts....

Doesn't mean they are proud rather, it's more of a "well as long as it doesn't affect me personally" type of deal. But that isn't just a Chicago thing it's more so of an American thing.
Personally I am not a supporter of lawmakers like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul , Tom Price, Ted Yoho, Dan Burton, Billy Long, Dianne Black etc BUT these folks were sent to DC by their electorate to shake things up and they certainly seem to be jostling things pretty hard.

In contrast the electorate of Illinois, especially folks in Cook Co and Chicago, seem to be incapable of electing enough reform minded people to any office to do other than continue the policies of failure that plaque our state / region.

The fact is that many of the most dynamic states with regard to job creation and budget reform have taken steps to find poltical leaders that are not content to allow the status quo to continue their pork barrel / bottomless pit of taxation way to continue...

The ability for folks to easily relocate to areas with better economic prospects leaves an increasingly bifurcated electorate behind -- the very poor are stuck in the parts of the region that are most dysfunctional and the most well off can steps to isolate themselves from the effects of high taxes.

It is a great argument. It means 400 less people are being killed a year than at the peak of violence. 500 is still 500 too many but you cannot ignore the progress that has been made.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but a reduction of nearly 50% is rather significant by anyone's standard.

Well, Chicago is far from perfect, but just remember it's a lot easier to go the Tea Party route and to stomp all over someone else's sand castle than it is to build one yourself.

I might be interesting to see what sorts of things would be uncovered if some "sandcastles" were stomped down in Illinois...
