It is stunning to see how much Portage Park has gone downhill over the last 10 years especially the last 5 years. There were 5 people shot there in less than a 48 hour span in two shootings by Irving and Central and the park this Weekend including a 4 year old Girl. There was a gang member shot dead 1 block south of the park along Central in January. Oh yeah and last year there was a shooting near Addison and Laramie and two just two blocks North of Six Corners and a fatal one by Cicero and Grace. My Uncle and his Wife still live on Grace and Menard and I'm starting to fear for their safety in the area. They are in their 70's so they aren't moving even though they could afford to.

Well I think you are overreacting. It's not a warzone or ghetto. It's really not dangerous at all. It has gone a little downhill compared to a decade ago, but it's not bad at all. Those shootings are not the norm. Now if this persists for another 5 years on a regular basis, ok. But Portage Park is still a decent neighborhood and not one that is particulary dangerous.

LOL, here we go again. People on this board seem obsessed with making quiet and safe neighborhoods seem like Nam. If this continues, Portage Park will become as dangerous as Lakeview! :monocle shatters:

It appeared to me more like she dumped a bucket of water on a candle.

Portage Park, a neighborhood of 64,000, has had two homicides all year and 15 since 2007. This is not particularly noteworthy. The fact that the OP had to dig back to last year to come up with enough shootings to fill out his post is telling. People in truly dangerous Chicago neighborhoods don't even have to dig back to last month.

Oh wah, someone's having a little snit because he doesn't like me. Boo hoo. I pointed out that Portage Park isn't dangerous because it isn't, and all these posts by people shivering in terror about Lincoln Park and the like (which I'm sure you've seen) are equally absurd.

Chicago has become a breeding ground for suffering and injustice. It is beyond saving and must be allowed to die. This is the most important function of the League of Shadows.

I just moved from that area. I never felt threatened or worried about my safety....even when I when for my late-night runs.
