There is no advantage of having a segregated city like Chicago. It's a shame that some native font see that.
Who is saying there is an advantage or that segregation is a good thing?

I totally agree with you, but do still think you are a bit broad with your definition, because while I grew up in a neighborhood where black folks weren't in large numbers, all of my social settings had healthy diversity.

That said, I certainly would acknowledge that segregated living patterns are likely to spill over into day-to-day life.

I guess I'm just trying to see the glass as half full here...

Yes, we have a ways to go on the housing, but in terms of regular interaction, I think Chicago is pretty diverse and that is absolutely a very good thing.

I grew up in a neighborhood that was 90% Black and also had a healthy mix of other races in my social circle.

I guess I'm not understanding what you mean by broad definition?

I also think I understand you writing in spite of the segregation, most Chicagoans have a healthy mix of people of other races in their social circle?

I definitely would hesitate before saying "most," but yes, that's in general what I'm getting at, I tend to include co-workers with the social circle aspect (varies by job, of course).

I can't write for everyone in Chicago. I do notice the segregation has had a negative impact on some Chicagoans I've met. I can't say all but more than should be IMO.

I guess we should also look at what I'm comparing it to. If we are comparing Chicago today to Chicago of the 90s, I wouldn't know what that was like. If we are comparing Chicago to a newer sunbelt city and observe inter racial interactions in restaurant and bars and cultural events then I would say the city is behind.

When we combine the things that can't be measured such as personal experience with things that we know like high unemployment and being in the top 5 most segregated cities list then there should be concerns from not only the Black community but everyone who likes Chicago.
