San Francisco and New York both have a little more of an international/cosmopolitan feel than Chicago, in my experience, while Chicago is more Midwestern, so maybe that's what the poster meant? I agree that they're extremely different in terms of laid-back vs. hustle-and-bustle, though San Fran isn't exactly the hippie haven it once was.

I don't find SF to be that much more international than Chicago. Maybe a tinge, but barely noticeable. NYC? Yeah there is a huge difference.

All I find significantly different about San Francisco's white citizens is their endless holier than thou attitude. Everyone else there is fine.

I think the the CSA of the Bay Area is more international. City propers, I don't know, but it definitely does have more international vistors than Chicago.
