Very nice! Unfortunately people like to live in an echo chamber and just talk to each other (which is why there is so much discussion of Chicago that happens in forums where people don't have a clue about Chicago).
The fact is that Chicago gun laws regarding acquiring a gun are meaningless, since you can drive for 10 minutes and be free of any laws that Chicago passes.
This map illustrates the point really well. Chicago directly borders Indiana, where no background checks are needed at gunshows. It is no coincidence that Indiana is second only to Illinois as the source of guns used in Chicago shootings. Check out Michigan, which is very close as well. Almost no guns come in from Michigan, Michigan does background checks and actually enforces it's gun laws.
