funny this thread popped up, I actually ran into the "Art" of Art of Pizza last night, hadn't seen the guy in person in at least a decade. We kind of both did a double take, as I've been going there since it opened - 1989!

A slice of stuffed pizza for $3.49 will do for a meal (although I usually pig out and get two).

A lot of people eat like that...not eating a lot ..especially women (not trying to be sexist, but it's true). A lot of people don't drink soda either with any meal.

hey, do they still have the mid-80s cartoony business maps of Lake View and Lincoln Park and the Loop? I love those!

When I go out to a restaurant for a meal, I usually just drink water. Sodas and other drinks are usually so costly in restaurants. It's one way I can eat out frequently and yet keep my costs down.

An exception is Thai restaurants, where I might sometimes splurge on a Thai iced tea, because I like them and that's something you can't get just anywhere.

I don't do sugared sodas and I don't do diet sodas either, except for Diet Rite Pure Zero cola which I sometimes drink at home. Even if I go to a fast food restaurant and order a combo meal that comes with a drink, I'll take unsweetened iced tea if they have it.

They always have Cheese, Sausage and Pepperoni slices plus a daily specialty slice, which is usually something interesting and delicious.

I myself provided a couple examples of hearty-sized meals that can be had for around $5 or only slightly more. If anyone has any other suggestions along those lines, I for one would love to hear them. A mere half-sandwich just doesn't do it for me (although I am not about to argue that it isn't enough for many others).
