Though it's $5.50, Nini's at 543 Noble. 8" sandwiches, good space, and nice people.

I did. Once. Luckily, it was a rare day where the line was not incredibly long. Still, I haven't had a chicago style hot dog there since; it's been all other stuff since.

A half? LOL

What about your tax? How about those fries and the drink....no chance at $5.00.

Taste of Lebanon in Andersonville. On Foster right between Clark and Ashland. OUTSTANDING shawarma. Can get that and a soft drink for about $5.

I am not saying that your total bill be exactly $5. Just that you can grab a meal for about $5. Maybe it's a small meal. Obviously you can spend more even at cheap place.

As for Hot Dougs, I often get their Polish for $3 plus fries for a couple more, boom $5. Whats tax 10%? Ok then $5.50. No need to be so picky. Just keep it close to $5.

Sultans Market a falafel is $4 or chicken sandwich $5.

Smoque is about $7. So just ride your bike and don't take the bus and save that dough for the sandwich.

Hai Yen on Argyle has some great banh mi sandwiches for about $5.

La Pasadita has some excellent tacos for about $2.50.

See, it aint that hard.

Here's another one. The Gyro at Johnny's Grill (State & Chestnut). $4.25 + tax. Big gyro too, and one of the better ones I've had in Chicago. $6.75 with a large drink and fries too. Pretty much all of their sandwiches, hot dogs, and burgers under $5. Nothing on their menu is over $9 and the big plates you get a **** load of food. Place has some great deals.

My answers are within a dollar or so of $5, but don't give me a hard time if some are $5.50 or so

Marianao has some awesome Cuban sandwiches, especially for breakfast. On weekends there are also a few vans across the street that sell tamales, sopas, tortillas and such that are awesome.

A couple tacos at Big Star run about $6, and you can get takeout. It's an awesome late night snack if you're in the area.

For a straight up Chicago Dog I really like Red Hot Ranch. Although no one should knock getting a classic dog at Hot Doug's, it's an awesome dog. If you can only get to Hot Doug's on a weekend there may be more unique offerings to match the long wait, but if you go there on a weekday at 11:45AM you can be in and out in no time at all. That's the best way to do it.

Halsted Deli has a hot dog special for $6.99 (2 hotdogs, chips and a drink).

Mr Beef has pizza slices for less than $5.00 last time i was there. so pizza slices are probably cheaper all over.
