Hey all,

I'm a Dallas native travelling to Chicago next weekend for a college reunion. We're staying at Northwestern, but we want to go to Chicago for a night to experience some nightlife.

As we're basically Chicago clueless, we're looking for some hot, swanky places to go. We're basically looking for loud, clubby places, with lots of beautiful people. We absolutely don't want local dive bars.

So far, the only club my friend has heard of is "Manor Chicago". This place any good?

Additionally, what's the party, clubby district of Chicago? For any people from Dallas, my comparison would be Uptown- what's the Chicago equivalent?

Thanks!

You can go to Metromix and search for bars and clubs/read reviews to see what you might find appealing

The primary "pretty people/loud music" club district is the North & Clybourn district, also known as the Weed Street District, where there is a high concentration of big warehouse-sized dance clubs/lounges/combo-thereof that I think you're looking for. Some of those clubs include Republic, Crobar, The Copa, Tokyo 21, and Zentra. I'm sure there are some other clubs n that district that I've forgotten. Basically, just walk around that district and pick a club that looks like a fit for you; they're all right next to each other.

Another "pretty people" area to consider is the Rush Street district, centered around Rush and Division. Not exactly "warehouse clubs" but same basic clientele.

Just so you know Tokyo 21 is a restaurant. They have a bar, but it's not a danceclub. Great sushi, though.

One you may hear about is Excalibur. Cool building. Terrible club. Steer clear. It's very much just for tourists.

In my experience, the three best websites for Chicago club reviews are the following: metromix.com (another poster previously mentioned this one), yelp.com and centerstagechicago.com

These sites list pretty much all the nightclubs and bars in town, AND have user-based reviews for almost all of them as well. You can really get a feel for what types of venues in Chicago would fit your scene & general preferences. Some venues are more laid back (and have cheaper drinks), whereas others have a bit more of that upscale "I wanna be seen" type of vibe. Music can vary everywhere too.

I remember when it was worth risking your life to get into the real clubs in bad areas, not these crappy imitations of what used to be.

Remember, Chicago invented "house" and "factory", not "club" music The real scene isn't going to be found at a club.

If you want a funky club that is very much a club, but more more of a local scene. I would check out Darkroom on Chicago ave. It is not in a touristy area (unless you are Ukrainian perhaps ) but it is a very nice little place and a very short taxi ride from downtown (I'm not much of a club person, but I've been there a couple of times and didn't loathe it, like I do most of the time I'm talked into going into a club).

Darkroom is definitely not a "pretty people" club like the OP is claiming to look for. More of a hipster club.
