Sometimes people forget those considerations.
What in the hell are you talking about? LOL. Seriously?

As I type this from my office on Sunday, I can assure you that a strict line between one's work life and leisure time is appropriate and to be fostered. Sometimes that strict line requires a little space between the two.

I thought that he/she was pretty clearly talking about reasons why some people choose not to live near work. (Not that Bronzeville is far from downtown to begin with.)

I have had jobs where I lived walking distance from work and never had a problem with co-workers dropping in on my day off. I currently work at home and don't have a problem leaving it when I'm done. I think it makes a whole lot of sense to live close to work to minimize your commuting time.

Consider Hyde Park. Although this neighborhood is further south then you are staying now, you can jump on Lake Shore Drive and be downtown in 12-18 minutes. Hyde Park is home to the University of Chicago and the Museum of Science and Industry. It is on the lakefront and really just a unique place. There is much commercial development in the works as we speak...5 Guys Burgers and P.J. Clarkes 24 hour diner just opened. The Harper Court development on 53rd St., will inlcude an L.A Fitness, Hyatt Boutique Hotel and Chipotle. Akira Clothing is opening across the street in the former Borders building. Oh and Whole Foods is coming in Phase 2 of the development (2014). Not too shabby for the southside!

Unless you work at a job with completely unprofessional and rude people, there's no reason why people from your work would randomly be dropping by your place even if you live near work. This isn't Seinfeld or Friends. I live within 5 minutes of my work and nobody from my work has ever shown up unannounced at my place wanting to do whatever. Anybody who does is an *******. If somebody actually needs something of me and I'm at home, they call me and ask. Completely unprofessional to do otherwise and I guarantee you this does not happen much. Blown way out of proportion. Most companies have unofficial (and sometimes official) guidelines about this in their conduct guidelines.
