A perfect solution!

Are you listening, ofcjim? Get an ITouch and a dock for it and you can stream all the radio in the world (because all stations have an internet stream now), or play your own music.

^^ Another solution is to get an FM transmitter and transmit your iPod to your radio. You won't get great sound quality, especially since you can't find an open frequency in this market without an adjacent signal. But it will still sound better than a docking station.

While Q101 wasn't great, it was one of the first stations I turned to.

I used to really enjoy Jack FM. On my morning commute they actually played music and not having a dimwit have little pre-teens call in and try to talk politics (idiots on 103.5) and then one morning I turn on 104.3 and I hear Eddie and Jobo and I felt like vomiting.

Radio in Chicago really is horrible. And yeah, I do have an IPod that I can play in the car but sometimes I prefer the radio and just another choice taken away. And just another station that I can't put on before any passengers suggest B96 (argh!)

Those are some good solutions. Drover, I've tried FM Trans, but there is way too much RF interference with all the equipment in the car. But back to Chicago radio, just what a disgustingly bad selection. I've driven cross country and even in the middle of nowhere I've found great rock stations. My last road trip was 16 hours and had satellite radio (Sirius) and even that repeated over and over. A lot of time when I work out I listen to Slacker or Pandora on my iPhone. This seems to be about the only direction you can go if you don't want to listen to your playlist. But really Chicago radio... FM has become talk radio and there's something lime 4 channels that play Ranchero and 6 that play horrible 80's over and over, pathetic.

One of the TV news shows said they've been on the air since 1992 ..actually , it was 1977 or 1978 ... as WKQX .. I remember they were 'commercial free' for the first month or two ..this is back when "Classic Rock' was "Current Rock" , and I think 'XRT was only on after dark .. memories ...

Since you mentioned an iphone this is perfect for your car. Uses headphone jack so you can charge the iphone and power this via AAA batteries.

Ha. Cool, thanks. Well looks like they're going to continue to play music for awhile longer, just minus DJ's.

Yeah, they're only half right - 1992 was when they switched to their current "Chicago's New Rock Alternative" format (or whatever they call it).

I was never a massive rock fan, more of a jazz and hip hop guy, but I will miss the station, only because I liked listening to some of the personalities in the morning. I got into them in high school and have been listening since 96, so sad to see them go.

If you have a car a port jack, a laptop and internet connection you can stream all types of music.
martiniinthemorning.com has a lot of chatter mixed with jazz and sounds from the old loung lizards of the past like the rat pack, Ellaa, Duke, etc...
