Winter is slightly warmer here than Toronto...

And shorter. Chicago has three months with average lows below freezing, Toronto has five.

Very nice to know, emathias and jdiddy. Thanks for the clarification!

I was under the impression that Chicago, bearing the notorious nickname of "Windy City" and considering its geographical location in the northern Midwest, had harsher winter weather and more snow than Toronto... I'm glad if that's not the case.

Part of the reason we are going is to take my daughter to the American Girl store. How would that fit into the itinerary you set up for Virtual american? I basically mean geographically so it makes the most sense to visit it at one point during the trip.

It's right next to the Hancock Building.

I actually remember seeing it on Michigan Ave. and thinking something like, "wow, that's such a strange name for a fashion store."

Is it fashion-related? I'd never heard of it before I set foot in Chicago!

"Windy City" is a nickname about the politicians in the 1800's who use to "blow a lot of wind" because they were bragging about Chicago non-stop.

It's not actually because of wind blowing through the air. Chicago CAN get windy, but it's right about middle of the pack as far as how windy US cities are on average.

It's child and doll related.

The books and dolls are pricey, but they are very nice. The girls can do things like braid their dolls hair and their are fashion accessories as well. They have reading and acting events at the store too. My dd was never into these dolls, but she enjoyed the books because of the history lessons they contained.

I didn't know we even had 3 months with averages below freezing. I would have guessed only 2.
