Driving thru chicago area July/Aug. What is lake Michigan like.Howis the beach area... Is it sand or rock, if so, what type of rock ? Is it a good walking lake ?

The beaches are nice and sandy. On nice days some of them are very crowded. The water, even in August, is still pretty cold, but the lake looks gorgeous!

it's usually around 70 degrees. Not florida temps, but not really COLD.

Yeah there's nothing like roasting in the 95 degree scorching sun, feeling your feet get hot from the sand as you walk to the water and jump into that 68 degeee water!
