I have ready many threads, and the common advice I hear is "it can change from block to block" with that being said, I am moving to chicago to attend school at The Art institute. I will be moving with my fiance and step son. We want to feel safe. So is the street/block area of Marshfield between W.Juneway Terrace and W. Jonquil Terrace a safe area. Do I have to be in my house when the sun goes down? Would you consider it a family area?

That is not considered one of the more safe parts of Rogers Park.
If this is your first foray into Chicago, or living in an urban environment, it might be a steep learning curve.

Here is a nice tool for you to use when looking at block by block, and prospective neighborhoods:

Chicago Police Department CLEARMAP - Crime Incidents

Everyone's tolerance for street crime is different.

Family area.....
Depends on what kindof family.
I think there is an apt building on that
very stretch that is a four plus one that
was redone into condos and is prob now apts.
I think Howard will turn around quickly.
It will depend on how quickly many of the apartments turn over.
Good location overall, but the retail on Howard is very seedy right there.
Howard is almost half good right by there, but still being held back by blechh retail and empty retail.

Short answer, probably not where you want to live,
unless you are used to life in the bronx.
Howard reminds me of Jerome street and Gunhill in the Bronx

Wait, you're the same poster who was complaining about Cincinnati's crime and student-infested 'hoods, right?

I don't think you'd like Rogers Park. At all.

I am actually moving from cincinnati to Chicago, and to tell you the truth the Hyde Park area crime rate is going up, its infested with college students, (I know all my friends live their). If you dont care for the night life to much and want a safe area outside downtown (20 min north) Check out the Mason and Loveland area. Sure it does not have as much character as Hyde Park. But its safer and easy living. I live in mason and I love it. I moved from fairfield (I dont reccomend) to Mason. Hope this helps some.
Hyde Park, Cincinnati
