Not terrible by Chicago standards. Logan Square isn't the greatest, but you are far enough NW that it shouldn't be a problem. If you are not used to city living, I wouldn't do it. But there aren't too many serious crimes in the area.

If you are a female with blond hair, I would think twice and go further east into Avondale.

I am 'used to city living', in that I live here. But, I am in a very safe area, and feel safe walking around at most any hour of the night.
Is there anything I would have to be "hip to" that falls outside of "common sense" (don't go out too late at night, etc)?

What if I were a short brunette? I am a man, but I would like if my girlfriend could visit before night hits, and not have any issues.

How far is it from the better parts? Would I have to walk through worse areas to get to the Damen or Logan Blue Line stops?

Sounds fair enough. Are these all that common in the area?

There are a lot around there. It is not murder/shooting city, but it is no walk in the park either.
