Since I live on the north side (northwest to be more precise) I see Cubs gear all the time. However, Cubs interest is starting to wane as the new owners expect fans to pay the highest ticket prices in the league to watch a team that will be considered overachievers if they finish 3rd in the division or .500. There's only so much you can exploit the goodwill of your fan base before it turns on you. The Ricketts are really pushing that envelope.

The Cubs however, still seem to be a big tourist attraction. I'm just saying.
Young people wear Sox gear because it looks good... not to say that all the Sox have to offer, they are dam good team that can make it deep into the playoffs (if they had a REAL closer, but thats beside the point).

Sox gear in general sells good outside of Illinois. I remember going on Mitchell and Ness (company based in Phila) trying to buy a Sox track jacket with "Chicago" written on back and the Sox coats were the only ones that were sold out (except for fat people sizes). Cubs, Yankees, and even old school Brooklyn Dodgers track jackets were still in stock. Black just looks good. I wear my authetic Sox hat every chance I get (its the best looking hat in baseball).

Also, I don't think the notion that more people are going towards them due to the WS win holds much merit... yes in the first year, you would see airhead college girls wearing Sox trucker hats that replaced their Cubs trucker hats, but it died down after about a year or two.

But some people (like me) just love the SOX!!! GO SOX!!!!!!

I'm a northsider, and I don't follow baseball. However, in the winter I'll rock a black Sox hat. Just because... well it's black, and the design isn't so... gay or fratboyish.
