If I remember history correctly, the White Sox drew more fans until the 70's or 80's when Wrigley was bought by the Tribune, Dallas Green became GM and Harry Caray migrated north. That was the beginning of the all summer Wrigley beer garden.
Cool or not I like both teams. Glad to see the Sox gaining more fans.

Yeah, as a south sider it's nice to see more people from Chicago taking an interest in the White Sox. However, I just think it is because the Cubs are so pathetic these days. I think if they ever start winning, they will have ten fold the fans as the White Sox. But Cubs management doesn't care because for them Wrigley Field is just another sports bar/beer garden. The Cubs are not about a winning baseball, it's all about selling the north side wrigleyville lifestyle.

Time will tell. I recently saw a statistic that showed that a ridiculous percentage of people at any given Cubs' game are from out of state (i.e. tourists). There's probably very few tourists at U.S. Cellular saving for fans of the other team.

The Cubs are absolutely, without any shadow of a doubt the more popular team nationally. Locally, I think the gap is closing. Give it one or two winning Sox seasons at the same time as losing Cubs' seasons and the balance could shift dramatically.

I don't think it's so much that they lose a lot (because a lot of people like me love those "loser mentality" teams) but that they spend so much money on players that are just awful.
