And I believe unpaid parking tickets could show up on your credit report .. especially if they get turned over to a 3rd party for collection, which will bite you in the keister down the road ..

That is truly amazing.

It can get booted anywhere... it's not exempt just because it has an out of state plate!

Give the OP some credit for dreaming, though. How great would that be? We could all just register our vehicles in states we never go to, and we'd always be in the clear?

Credit agencies don't care much about unpaid parking tickets. They're more concerned about whether you live up to the contractional agreements you willingly entered into.

Yes, but if a municipality turns the collection over to a private agency , they do report to the Credit Bureaus as collection activity , which does factor into the scoring .. Not sure if Chicago does this ..I thought they had contracted w/ some collection agencies ..

An IL driver's license but out of state plates will get you a ticket in IL.
Actually it's 90 days to get an IL DL if you are from out of state and IL will be your new residence. I'm not being picky, just clarifying.

Yes, the city does turn over uncollected parking tickets to collection agencies. And yes, those collection agencies almost certainly do report to credit bureaus. But said bureaus are not obligated to give a damn about uncollected parking tickets. And generally speaking, they don't. Now, if you have a massive pile of unpaid parking tickets worth thousands of dollars, the credit bureaus might take notice. But since a parking ticket is not an extension of credit, credit bureaus don't pay much attention to whether you've paid them or not.

Ironically when I moved from Iowa to Illinois, my insurance did not go up and now actually I save more money because I pay a flat registration fee for plate registration unlike in Iowa where its cost is determined by value of your car. The newer and more expensive your car, the more you pay in registration fees there.

Yep. For all the other gripes about taxes and fees in IL, the registration renewal fee is cheap compared to most states... $98 is it?
