Well, I didn't vote for him or Stroger (although he originally took over his father's job first), but I don't seem to have a popular opinion most of the time.

No, I work for a manufacturing outfit. We have about 23 employees and nearly half are either relatives or lifelong friends of the owner or foreman.

We function as a vendor to other small and large manufacturing companies who mostly all work from the same gameplan. If you walk the floor of most of Chicagolands larger industrial operations, You're gonna find some incidences of near entire extended families on the payroll due to connection in management.

In my experience the hiring of friends and family, is the norm for American business and not the exception.

I do not believe it is the norm in retail, which unfortunately now provides most of the jobs in this country.

Despite criticism, new assessor Berrios hires son, sister - Chicago Sun-Times

What is with this stroke hiring his son and sister to work for his new county office days after taking office?

What is even more shocking is they worked for him in his prior post as well.

How Claypool did not know of this and hammer Berrios on this issue is beyond me.
Berrios is a corrupt, no doubt. What is shocking is how someone slams Berrios for being corrupt but defends someone like Sarah Palin ferociously.

I'm a card carrying Republican and I'm embarrassed by Palin at times. I rarely see people with any sort of critical thought ferociously defend her.

Neptitism is prevalent among large financial firms as well. We have a number of senior execs who have their relatives in various positions.

I never cease to be amazed by how many interns we get that are related to someone who already works here. It is definitely not a level playing field for those who are not connected. Such is life unfortunately but unlike a private company my tax dollars are funding this berrios/stroger neptitism.

Nepotism is so deep at my job that people were shocked that I was hired without knowing anybody. Unless all forms of it (ie family, friends, fraternities, alumni etc) are completely wiped out, the playing field will never be leveled.
