Your suggesting that a street thug with criminal intent will go and get a FOID card and pass a gun class just so that they can get a gun legally? Just listen to yourself. The only people who will get guns legally are law abiding citizens.

I believe that if a potential burglar thought that his target home owner was armed, he just might reconsider. Im sure that the criminal who was shot by the 80 year old guy didn't expect any resistance. If he knew there was a chance that he would be killed, he may not have done it at all.

You're, not "Your."

I might point out that legal guns become illegal every day.

There is no way in hell that the opinions of 9 judges in DC should outweigh the opinion of, you know, THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE HERE.

I guess we need to throw out the constitution then.

How is that automatic weapons ban working for you Mayor Daley?

"The driver of a car who allegedly tried to run over a Chicago Police officer was shot to death Thursday by the officer's partner...They also say they found a fully loaded automatic weapon on him. "

A registered gun is better than a non-registered illegal gun. If a cop pulls you over, it's perfectly legal to have registered gun in the car so the cops is less likely to take you to the station. A petty criminal benefits from having his gun LEGAL..

Petty Criminal?

First of all, "petty" (or otherwise) criminals aren't allowed to buy guns in the first place. So why do you think that a "petty" criminal would even try to register one knowing full well that he would be denied?

Why would you think that a "petty" criminal would have a gun in the first place if all he/she was up to was "petty" crime?

If someone has a gun illegally, then they're already involved some serious felonius criminal activity.

I find it amusing how you antis make up these hypothetical scenarios that exist only in your minds and project them on the reality of your alternate universe.

Liberals don't want guns because they don't trust themselves with guns. If you gave every liberal/hipster in Chicago a loaded gun today, they would shoot someone that they dislike tomorrow. As a conservative i wouldn't be able to rest as easily at night knowing that my left wing neighbors had guns. But since its everyone's constitutional right to own a gun, i wouldn't move to take their guns from them.
