I recently looked at a house in "southeast" Oak Park. Can anyone out there clue me in on that area right off of Roosevelt Road? A block north of the house looks more promising than the block where the house is located.

There was a major effort on the part of utility companies for remediation of some ancient manufacturing site that was on the land occupied by Barrie Park that serves that area. It took a long time to complete that and thus much of that neighborhood missed out on the run up in values that other areas enjoyed.

It is a bit isolated from the "heart" of Oak Park, and the values have to be compared to Cicero and Forest Park, though the schools do give you a bit of boost.

I think you are correct that concentration on the blocks that are niether adjacent to the Eisenhower or Roosevelt will be a wise choice...
