I would die a lot bit inside if I had to live in Mount Prospect.

I hadn't really thought about Chicago itself. I really do have to have a decent school for my son. He will be in a self-contained kindergarten next year. I will check into those neighborhoods for houses and schools. Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone. Any other suggestions anyone has would be appreciated.

Via Metra: 8:19 Mount Prospect, 8:41 Clybourn, 8:52 Rogers Park. 33 minutes.

Depends on where the OP lives and works.

If he isnt working anywhere near the Rogers Park Metra stop hes kinda screwed.

My comment was just sort of general about Mount Prospect, regardless of the commute.

Fair enough.

The Rogers Park Metra Stop is located on Lunt just west of Clark. I am doubtful the OP is working in that area since it is mainly Residential with a few small shops and grocery stores.

I remember commuting from Skokie to Loyola University and it would be 30-35 minutes in rush hour. Evanston seems to be more expensive and going farther west than Niles or Morton Grove seems likely to push your commute to an hour. Have you looked in Glenview? Also, if you look closer to downtown areas in Skokie and Morton Grove, you may find an older home with more charm. I'm thinking the Lorel park area in Skokie just north of Oakton and west of Lincoln?
