I was thinking as I posted that that someone might call me on that. I've been there very recently and it is definitely a happenin' place. Trendy isn't the first word that would come to mind but it's not exactly wrong. Maybe I should have written that I never would have thought 10 years ago I would hear Forest Park described as "trendy".

It's still not even on the radar screen as far as being one of the trendier places in the metro area. But you've got a point, it might be right near the top of trendiest spots in the suburbs. Maybe I should start a thread on "trendiest suburbs".

I think the main thing holding FP back from being "family-hip-trendy" like Oak Park is that it's in the Proviso East high school district. If it were in the OPRF district, it would probably be indistinguishable from Oak Park.

Turns out I know the dean from Proviso East H.S.

Needless to say, Proviso East is not a good H.S.

Not that it's his fault. But he's no Michelle Pfieffer.

agreed- I think more people would move to FP if students didn't have to attend Proviso East. I actually like FP- the homes on the northern part of town has a certain charm. Too bad FP is always overshadowed by River Forest (Better Homes & education) and Oak Park (trendy & education)

I wasn't going to respond but...This most be some kind of joke--are you serious? Your question has gotta be the dumbest ever, if you truly feel this way, I'd suggest you never go outside! Inasmuch as Chicago has problems, so does the rest of the world. You gotta face facts--this is the world we live in today, full of crime, racism, poverty and other. Either deal with it or jump off a cliff now, to be honest there is no super safe neighborhood in the world let alone Chicago. Everyday, every street corner, poses a possible problem. Why don't you try just living, and learn to relax. But if you really want to know where the crime is, do a google search for:

chicago everyblock crime.

You will then get a link for the new crime report website. Good luck in trying to be safe.
