I have a new job in the chicago ridge area, I don't know much about the area, but during my search through the neighborhoods they seem to be predominatley white (I am not, and don't want to deal with a lot of racism), I would like an area that is safe, but no more than 10-15 min away from the chicago ridge area, I don't mind the prices being a little high, and with a good mix of people (races).

*disclaimer:I recognize that all white people are not racist, but I just don't feel like dealing with the one's that are on a daily basis...thanks

Why do you not follow your own advice???Practice what you preach.

I do practice what I preach, and have spoken to some people which is why I don't want to live there So, I am looking else where, and hopefully somewhere I would be more accepted, now it could be that I spoke to the wrong people about the area, if so please do let me know...any helpful advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

i guess it a choice of what we want safe vs no racial issues. i dont find a lot of courtesy in chicago its a tough town always has been. i mean some neighborhoods like my former are predominatly black but very violent (cicero). i mean if they hurt you it wont be racism but how is that better?

So why did you even ask the question here if you have done "research"(as well as made up your mind on the area) and decided you do not want to move to Chicago Ridge?

Then if you don't like racism, I would strongly suggest you seriously DON'T move to Chicago's south/south-west side where racism is still alive and well being VERY obvious as you drive down one street where on one side of a street such as lets say Western in parts will be all white while the other is mostly all black, or mexican, or whatever. Sadly, the south burbs and south-side of the city are still very segregated and many people still hold many racist ideologies.

As for Ridge, CR is still largely white (like probably over 85%), with a large number of middle easterners flooding into the apartments in the town. The closest the African Americans live in large numbers is probably Chicago (east of Beverly) near 95th Street and maybe Western Ave or even further east, or over more off to the south-east in areas like Robbins, Dixmoor, Harvey and those areas leaving Chicago Ridge, nowhere near any African American areas.
