If you do enough digging, you might get lucky and find a small apartment in Northbrook or Deerfield.
With all the employers farther north in Lake Co, and those to the west of Bannockburn I can say with all honesty that there is simply A LOT f traffic going in pretty much EVERY direction to AND from work, both mornings and evenings.

Years ago it was true that there was a only a tiny reverse commute but for more than a decade the explosion of employment AND the draw of City living has meant that commutes times are pretty crummy both inbound and outbound.

If you want a short commute you need to live close to work. Period.

Even traveling a short distance can and is very slow on some of the roads that cut through Bannockburn becuase of a deliberate effort to either NOT widen them, make them one-way, or literally close them to non-resident traffic. VERY un-commuter friendly!

I half believe that if there are major carbon curbs but into law it would not be unlikely at all for a legal minded individual with a grudge to challenge some of the road policies on the grounds that by making trips longer the town is contributing to an increased carbon footprint...

Actually Northbound on Waukegan is better then Southbound. That's my morning commute and I always see the Southbound backed up on Waukegan from Lake Forest to Half Day and then Half Day West to Milwaukee is a nightmare. 60 East or West near the toll is horrible too - my friend at work lives in Vernon Hills and takes 60 and although she is about 6 miles she can sit in traffic for up to 60 minutes during peak traffic times. It's just bad right now, so I guess the closer you live the easier it will be to get to work. Good luck!

Wheeling is much less expensive and much less desirable. Some complexes in Wheeling are pretty acceptable, but a depressingly highercentage are overrun with folks that are barely getting by, have poor English and under supervised kids.

You might want to up your budget a few hundred bucks...

Pembrook Club in Gurnee is very nice----but your talking 900-1000 for a 1 bedroom. Residential neighborhood, nice parks, near retail, upscale apartments.
