95% of the time I'd urge anyone young who won't have much time in the city to just live in the city and make it work- why bother to come to such a great city if you rarely see it, but that commute has killed many a stronger person. It's brutal.

Ophidian14 and aragx6, thanks for painting a realistic picture of the commute. My only reference was Yahoo Maps, etc which suggested a 45 minute commute. Obviously, this should be avoided.

Incognito, I'm sure you're a great guy but ahava and IbeDavid have confirmed my favorable impressions of some complexes in/around BG.

Ophidian14, she's doing an internship in Engineering with a global concern that has a division in northeast BG. Incognito, she's the exact opposite of what you are picturing in your mind.

You have all been extremely helpful. As the unknowns become knowns, my fears and anxieties are reduced and I can't thank you enough.

Haha ok for the record:

1) I do NOT have a room available myself

2) Millenialmom, I'm happily engaged to a chemistry major. Smart girls can be hot too.

3) IbeDavid, that's a whole bank account worth of 25-cent words in your post, better cash that out and spend it before the value of the dollar slips any further.

Lighten up folks.

Hmm. Siemens? Anyway, someone else said "just live in the city and bear it". I guess if this is for an internship, and only for, say, three months, it might be bearable. I would never do it though.

that is exactly why she should not live in the city. It's an internship. She is here to work and make an impression. The last thing she needs is an unpredictable commute! Interns need references in the future.

REPLY: I see you follow Philosopher Paris Hilton with everything having to be hot ; Im sure that that philosophy will serve you well in life versus having sound sexual mores and traditional values. The Original Posters daughter isnt some Tramp looking for a shack-up situation to put herself in , obviously. You need to spend some time on those 25 cent words and dis-integrate them from your life so your offspring wont carry the torch thats passed down to them.

No question. So, say she needs to be in at a certain time -- just plan to come in an hour before. If the commute blows up, you still make it. If it doesn't, maybe she can leave earlier. Again, not advocating this approach at all, just throwing out ideas.

If this place really is Siemens, or any of the places over by Weiland/Deerfield, she might be able to ride the North Central train out in the morning.. first train will get her in at 8:04 plus the time to get to the place..

You need to calm down a bit. What did he say to even make such a statement that he doesn't have sound sexual mores? He made a joke, let's be calm now.
