Price range: 800-1000 dollars a month.

Just one person: me. Male, mid-20s. I don't care for bars. I'm more into bookstores and historical sites. Restaurants would be nice. I'm primarily concerned with safety. I don't want to be around gangs or worry about my place being broken into. A quiet neighborhood is great, but I don't want to be cut off from civilization either. I wouldn't mind a studio.

Thanks!

I'd check out Lincoln Square, North Center, Anderson Ville, Ravenswood and Roscoe Village. All are nice areas with a decent amount of things to do within walking distance. Lincoln Square has the added bonus of a cinema, and Roscoe Village has a Whole Foods... though all have a good amount of eateries and stores close by with good access to the EL.

If you are asking about Chicago proper, this should be moved to the Chicago forum. If you are asking about suburbs, please clarify.

Andersonville is part of Edgewater, so it's in it.

LOL, Andersoneville is safe! It's NOT gangland, nor do residents have to worry about such things. If someone is scared of the hoards of stroller pushing moms and dads, or the groups of same sex couples going to sunday brunch, it may not be the best place.

Yeah I'm currently living in Niles and it sounds like everything you need.. And still easy enough to get to downtown. I have never seen any trouble in the 6 months i have lived here. It's very close to Skokie and Des plaines lots of nice restaurants and you could definitely find something within your budget.
