My mother suggested that we registered our kids in Park Ridge district using her address, but that sound messy.
Messy and not sure you would be able to do it. I know when I first registered my kids, they asked for all kinds of proof of address. It's been a while, but I think they asked for several things with your name and address on it like utility bills, etc.

Good luck! I haven't been house shopping in 10 years, but maybe you can find a fixer upper in the neighborhood you want.

Unless my "Rand McNally" capabilities are off, there is NO part of Wheeling that is west of Buffalo Grove rd. The better parts of Wheeling feed into D23/Wheeling HS and D21/Buffalo Grove HS. That's not to say neighborhoods feeding into D21/Wheeling are "no fly zone", just needs more investigation. The D23 boundary that feeds into Wheeling HS is north of Palatine, South of Hintz(except the subdivision on NE corner of Hintz and Schoenbeck whcih is D23)and west of Wheeling Rd.

Take a look at these rankings: Search Illinois High Schools | US News
Hersey and Prospect are ranked higher than New Trier and Buffalo Grove is ranked higher than Maine South with Elk Grove HS just one place behind. No doubt New Trier and Glenbrooks are excellent high schools, but there are outstanding D214 high schools in less costly neighborhoods so I do not understand the "fixation" with New Trier, Glenbrook or Maine South.

I think it's a fixation with the town itself, not just the school. New Trier, Glenbrook, and Main Sourth serve those towns that are considered "old money". For me Park Ridge is a comfort zone. I know the neighborhood and it will keep my kids close to their grandma and grandpa. Winnetka and Glenview will cut my commute time to work to only 5 minutes.

West Wilmette is the most affordable area that feeds into New Trier. If you need to be close to Palatine, you should not look at Wilmette because east-west traffic is painfully slow. Stevenson is basically just as good (unless you absolutely have to have the old-money influence) and much closer to where you need to be.
