Need some help and advice here please. I've got a 2016 GMC Terrain with a V-6 engine. The original battery was replaced in January 2019. The second/current battery is therefore about 4 years and 4 months old.
Several days ago, I hooked up a small 2-amp charger to the "remote" terminals of the battery to charge/boost the battery some since the voltage tested about 12.4 volts instead of 12.6+ volts.
I had not been having any starting issues up to that point. After doing this battery charging, the starting of the car has been a bit sluggish. This morning, it wouldn't start at all.
My first question is "Did I do the right thing by hooking up the trickle charger to the "remote" terminals which are not exactly the battery terminals?"
My second question is "Could I have harmed anything in the electrical system by hooking up the charger to the remote terminals?"
If it simply needs a new battery, I'm OK with that. I certainly hope that I didn't damage anything in the electrical system by hooking up the trickle charger to the remote terminals.
BTW, there's some type of electrical "box" (for lack of a better word) that sits on top of the battery. That's the reason I didn't try to hook up the trickle charger to the battery terminals. It's fairly easy to slide this box out of the way, but I didn't do that in the charging of the battery.
So, what's your advice/suggestions? Any knowledgeable help would be appreciated. Thank you.
