I voted rough terrain but more specifically my ideal would be running through the forest (not on trails). It's such a hardcore workout for me.

Of the 3 options, rough terrain is by far the best. Not only do you get great cardio, it works more muscle groups more thoroughly than the others can, especially the core muscles.

Are you in New England, perhaps? Sounds good, but not possible here.

Way too much undergrowth, including lots of Oplopanax Horridus.

Another vote for rough terrain. It's more interesting and challenging-more fun.
