Hello all
My husband and I are planning a trip to the Chattanooga Tn area for a small vacation. I have never been there and based on the pictures I have seen thought it would be a good place for a romantic getaway. I would love anyones input on where to stay and what to do. We are going right after Christmas if there is alot to do around this time with it being the holidays. Thank you

Cool Pencil ya in .!

B.E. : Hello , WELCOME. Will Pencil ya in for some activities or sight seeing.
Always something NEW being decorated or promoted.
. Outdoor stuff might be a tad cold, bring a coat. Yes , business hotels right down-town to walk , or Free Electric bus. The Art district / BLUFF / restaurants are a romantic corner hideout. Maybe could give ya extra Aquarium info or Feeding demos.
Did you mean here for New Years Eve. Bluegrass music jams sort of popular in this region.
. Lots of History & scenery here with the Gorge Trust region , just West of Downtown, could give ya a tour. Tennessee River Gorge Trust

Here is an option on where to stay, the Chattanoogan. Anyone stay there before, just got the 4 diamond award. In another life, I worked an the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress and we were fortunate to achieve the 5 diamond. There is a lot of effort and work that goes into getting these awards, would like to hear others opinions of what makes the Chattanoogan so nice!

Here's their site, looks nice...

My wife and I took two of her granddaughters on vacation last summer and stayed in Chattanooga for a couple days. Other then keeping two teenage sisters from killing each other we had a good visit. We stayed at the Ramada Inn at I think exit 174. The room was nice and clean. Had a Cracker Barrel on one side and Waffle House on the other. We were watching expenses but still wanting to enjoy ourselves so this was a good location. We took one day just seeing the usual spots. Started out at Ruby Falls, then rode the Inclined Railroad. That was a great way to look out across the country side. Then we spent quite a bit of time at Rock City. Talking about looking out across the countryside!! We didn't make it to the Aquarium. From Chattanooga we went to Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains and went to the Aquarium there. Would love going back to Chattanooga area. It's really nice and talked to some friendly people.

The Bluff View art/historic district looks interesting --I made a quick trip and hope to return to explore the area more fully. There is a nice restaurant and perhaps B&B in this area--the Back Inn Cafe and ???House Inn. The Hunter American Arts museum is located in this area and just beyond that is the Riverwalk Pedestrian Bridge. Near the Back Inn Cafe, it sits on a bluff hence the name I assume. There is a small sculpture garden, good spot for taking pictures and a bridge that connects to a historic area. Good place to walk and look at the old homes/estates.

Then there is the Northshore--a native might explain how the city is laid out --I just drove around. The Northshore seems to be a residential/business district just beyond downtown/Aquarium and on the way to Lookout Mtn/Ruby Falls/Rock City.

It seems to me that most of the places to eat are located in the Hamilton Mall area as well as many new motels. If you stay in this area you will be about 10 minutes north of the city.

If you need a 24 hr place to eat the City Cafe at the Days Inn on Market Street is the place to go. An old diner style restaurant with an amazing menu including Greek, Italian, late night breakfasts, seafood, steaks and burgers. The desserts looked incredible. It is near the aquarium so you could stop in for a cup of coffee and a muffin.

You could easily spend 3/4 days in Chattanooga.
