My father in law is giving us a boat We are trying to figure out where the best place to dock the boat is. We live in Ooltewah and we would like a place that easy to get to. Also hoping there are some swimming areas for the kids to jump off the boat and where they can tube or ski.

If anyone has some suggestions that would be great. We recently moved here so I don't know the river at all yet.

I'm not a boat person, but a friend of mine is and I've ridden with them a few times. He trailers his boat, though. Maybe other people will chime in after the holiday (all the boat people are out on boats for the holiday without access to a computer, duh .

I recommend going to maps.google.com, selecting "Satellite" view, and panning over to the lake. Then type "marina" into the search bar, and all marinas known to Google will be highlighted on the map. There are several marinas in the Harrison Bay area, which also happens to be the closest to Ooltewah (drive west and north on Hunter Rd). I don't know anything about price and availability, though. There is another marina near the dam, and many many on the north side of the lake.

Wolftever Creek looks like the closest public ramp, unless there's one in Savannah Bay (summer water only - this area is dry when they lower the water level in the winter).

There are gobs of coves and inlets available for skiing/swimming, the trick is to find them. Without a personal guide I suggest google maps again. Look for promising areas on the map, then just go exploring.
