Hey guys, the hubby and I are heading to Chattanooga for an overnight trip (From Knoxville). Has anyone ever done the tours on the Southern Belle Riverboat? Chattanooga Riverboat: Main Site (http://www.chattanoogariverboat.com/www/cruises - broken link)

They offer 1.5 hr cruises for sightseeing and I love to take pictures so this seemed like a good idea. I was wondering how busy this would be on a Thursday and how much space we can expect to move about. My hubby is a large man 6'7 and not very comfortable in cramped crowded areas.

Thanks for any opinions on this tour or any others you could suggest

Should I post this in the CHATTANOOGA area or is it just a bust?

I've never been, but have heard the River Gorge Explorer is the best way to experience the river by boat.

As I understand it, the Southern Belle is more of a laid back, relaxing cruise focused on being on the water and maybe eating a meal on a boat. The Explorer is much faster and you go much farther down the Gorge; this is nicer if you like wind-in-your-hair type of rides.

The Explorer focuses more on the wilderness areas of the TN River Gorge (hence the name) and has guides to point out interesting flora, fauna, and historic sites along the trip. I assume the Belle also has guides as well, and the boat stays much closer to the downtown area to focus on the history and sights of the city itself.

It's all about personal preferences. I'd prefer the Explorer, maybe you'd prefer the slower pace of the Belle.

To throw another option out there, check out the Chattanooga Ducks. I've ridden one once as a way to get to McClellan Island on a maintenance/trash pickup trip, and it was kinda interesting.

But whatever you decide, once you establish your time frame you should immediately call ahead and make reservations.
