It would mean so much to me if someone could please direct me to the better place to live: Charlotte or Davidson? I know each are quite nice while alos being somewhat different. I think we would probably be happy in either however I am very concerned about Davidson's high school (North Mecklenburg) based on some of the blogs I have read. Seems that Meyers Park high school displays very high ratings but based on what I have researched the town of Davidson may offer more what we are looking for. Can someone please verify what I have learned and need truly accurate feedback. And does any one know the time frame for Davidson to begin the process of constructing a new high school?

Thank you

Andy

Andy, truly the best place to live is as close to your job location as possible - so where is that?

I would personally pick Davidson in a heartbeat if you work near there. And while Myers Park gets high ratings, remember, that's from the kids in its IB program - not for the whole school population. There are issues there just like any other school, trust me.

In addition, we need to know your price range to better recommend specific places

Davidson is a wonderful community- and there are other choices near Davidson, as well. If you can give a bit more info, then we can hopefully help you narrow down a spot that will suit you and your family.

We are willing to spend about 350k. We are from NJ and based on realtor and friends in NC we're thinking that the town of Davidson would be the best choice. I heard great things about Davidson and their lower grade schools but not such good info. about the high school. Though my son is only 8 there's only about 6 yrs until reaching high school and I thought I read a blog recently which indicated that North Mecklenburg high school has had some gang problems. Can anyone please give me some objective feedback about North Mecklenburg high school. And does any one know where the plans stand in terms of building a new high school for the town of Davidson?

Thank you again.

Andy

But again Andy, where will you job location be? So much depends on that, really.

As far as N. Meck - I wouldn't sweat it now - your son is only 8! A lot can happen, good and bad, in six years. I am not aware of any new school plans in that area of the county, but contact CMS (Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools), someone there can tell you about current projections for building.

There have been several regulars here in the past with experience at N. Meck who had only good things to say about it. Honestly, it's got a better reputation than others in the city.

I think there have been some isolated incidences at N. Meck but I have never heard there are gangs and violence there.

If you don't feel good about MECK schools, you might consider Mooresville . . . Like Loves, I don't know of any plans for a new school in Davidson. Your realtor should have that info but you can check w/ CMS just to make sure. I was hoping some of our posters who live in that area and have kids in N. Meck would post but maybe they will see this and post this weekend.

Maybe we are getting a little too nosey here? I have seen a few postings on this issue today. It doesn't matter where this person works, this person could be self employed or just live off investments or could be on disability? What is it to us where this person works? Not every person is a slave to a full time job. This person just wants to know where the better place is to live. Can't we just answer the question? I don't mean to start anything with anyone but it seems like some people expect others to tell the world about what they do in life for money. Again I don't mean to offend anyone but this is just how I see it.

EXCUSE ME??? I am NOT being nosy, good grief. I could not care less where Andy and his family choose to live. You completely miss the point of the question!

The whole point of the question is to help him identify which area of the city I could best recommend to him based on HIS needs. Traffic here is a growing nightmare. We would all enjoy a much better quality of life if more people lived nearer to where they work. It's just the sensible, responsible thing to do

I think my useful days on here are over, LOL! This is the fourth time today someone has felt my posts didn't meet their needs or they didn't like the tone or what I asked in order to understand their needs better so I could answer w/ some really meaningful info.

Andy - good luck with your move. I am sure b/n your friends, a realtor and some research, you will find a great place for you and your family.

I'm outta here.
