I don't know when the date is for hearing the official census count, but I figured it might be fun to see who can guess the official Charlotte count...or come close to it. Maybe make a bragging rights competition out of it?
I'm in a rush to get out the door to something else right now, so I don't have time to look up the numbers (I'll try later)...but does anyone know our last good population count or good "official" estimate? I'm talking only the city limits of Charlotte. Maybe we could chop it up into regions too...Meck County, Huntersville, Matthews, Pineville, etc.

Charlotte CITY LIMITS only? I'm going with 625,000
The city population in 2007 was 671,588. It grew 40,000 from 2006. Figuring in a slowdown, I would guess that the city population at this time would be around 705,000.
The metro population in 2007 was 1,652,000. At a minimum, the area grew at a rate of 50,000 per year so we are sitting around 1,752,000 at this time.
The prize? I don't know...a beer (or sweet tea, depending upon age) at the next (if we ever get one successfully planned) CD meetup.
Seriously though...it should be like one of those office things where people guess the size and weight of someone's new baby. But since times are tough and everyone's broke, we won't do a buy-in...just bragging rights for now.
