I have been the beneficiary of much valuable information on this forum and feel compelled to share this. I hope others will benefit from this post.

I recently had 2 cases of what I consider pretty unethical encounters with separate dentists One insisted on re-doing a root canal when all I needed was a cap. Luckily, I had received X-rays less than 3 weeks before in another state and was in a position to question the recommendation. I went to another dentist who told me my tooth was perfectly fine and there was no evidence that I need a new root canal. He replaced my cap and I've had no problems.

A few weeks ago, I took my 14 year old for his six month cleaning etc. at a pediatric dentist here in S. Charlotte and was told that he had 7 (SEVEN) cavities and needed over $1,300 worth of fillings! Since his last check up only 6 months earlier showed no cavities, I left stunned, upset, confused... and even started scolding my son about caring for his teeth better. We went to NY for the holidays and had him checked out by his old dentist and suprise, surprise the guy said he found nothing. I asked him to check as thoroughly as he could since we were told about the cavities. He asked me if I'm sure this is the same kid. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This is a disgrace and the more I think about what they were going to do with my kid's teeth unnecessarily makes me furious.

The purpose of my post is to say when in doubt, please get a second opinion. If anyone else has had a similar experience, please let us know. I think as consumers we should know if we are being preyed upon.

Can you please DM me too. The last time we went to the dentist they said my daughter had 7 cavities too. I paid a bundle for all that work - I wonder if it was really necessary?

I need a dentist and I feel like I keep hearing these horror stories in Charlotte! Even when someone recommends a great dentist, someone else comes along saying the aforementioned "great" dentist gave them a terrible experience.. I really feel like I can't trust anyone around here but i NEED to go to the dentist soon!
