The Wachovia job sites seems to have temporary positions available and they're not that many in Charlotte (the # was like 14 when I looked earlier today). There are some contract positions (and presumably perm positions) that are being staffed up. The ones I know about are related to merger and integration.
Wachovia is a funny place right now with a lot of high level middle management shuffling around to hide and protect their themselves and a few of their friends (or people they want to see unaffected by any cuts).
It's even stranger in that they are releasing contractors, and then in the next instant hiring new ones, vs. extending or reassigning them. I do know there's a mandate to get the cheapest possible help moving forward. I've talked to a few friends who were approached with an offer to take a pay cut to stay on (although like I said, the ones who are savvy and have inside protection aren't taking pay cuts.
