JCSU is a thinkpad university. It is also an HBCU. The buildings are okay, some need repairs. I can't lie to you, its location, is a great view of the Charlotte skyline but is not in the safest of neighborhoods. Don't let that scare you, just be smart about your surroundings. If you are looking for a great college experience that comes with an HBCU, I would recommend it.
Positives
- Great place to get an HBCU experience in an urban environment
- Very distinctive local alumni, such as Malcom Graham, a state rep., Patrick Graham (no relation), head of the local Urban League, several well known local business owners, and many notable local radio personalities
- Very active Greek organizations
- Excellent programs in the sciences and Computer Science
Negatives
- Location, location, location. The neighborhood is not nice, like most HBCUs
- Cost!!! Because its private, its a very expensive school
- Size. Its a small school, so it may not offer as much as some larger HBCUs
- Many of their kids end up transferring to UNCC after establishing NC residency (mainly because of the cost)
