Hello there! I just wanted to give you all a heads up on Anzi's at Stonecrest on Rea Rd. in South Charlotte... I moved here from NJ about 9 yrs. ago and I used to love Anzi's as well until a friend of mine told me 2 yrs. ago that she ordered pizza to go one night and found a brown "creepy crawly" (can't even say the name of the bug) crawling around on her take out box! I have not been there since. Well, just last week I was watching Fox news at 10pm and they were covering a story about a restaurant that had been closed because of their sanitaion scores. It wasn't Anzi's but, get this, they went on to say that if a restaurant gets a sanitation score below 70, they are automaticaly closed down! They then showed a list of the top 5 restaurants in Charlotte that are close to being closed down and guess who was at the top of the list... yup, Anzi's with a score of 70! Boy am I glad I haven't ever gone back! Just wanted to spread to word.

Ewwww! We just ate there the other night. I didn't see their sanitation score, but if I did I would have walked right out!

And they have gotten low scores a few times. I ate there once a couple years ago and thought it was garbage anyway.
We didn't like Anzis at all thought the pizza was blah and the food had no taste...However try Poppys in Torringdon..the pizza was great and so was the eggplant rolinti.
Never tried Anzi's yet, but in the Matthews/South Charlotte/Union county area, the best Pizza I've found so far is Mama's in Mint Hill. They use ingredients shipped from Long Island. The owner said you can't get the good ingredients down here, that's why most local pizza tastes like garbage.
Fontanella's is good also, & Mario's in Matthews is ok.
Umm Tonys in ballantyne is THE BEST....we ate anzi's in Dec when we first came and it was good..however we NEVER ate there again since finding Tony's....they have awesome food as well as their pizza...

Thanks for the tip! I didn't even realize that there was a pizza/pasta place in there. Last time I was in that shopping center, Red Brick Pizza was the only pizza place around.
For all of you who haven't tried Portofino's yet, you really have to give it a try. There's a location in Ayrsley Town Center (off South Tryon exit on I-485), and there's another one on Park Road not too far from the Southpark area. They have a ton of entree/pasta choices, and their pizza is excellent. There are places closer to me that are good (Brooklyn Pizza Parlor, Tony's, Palone's, La Strada, Fontanella, Mama Lena), but I still make the longer drive over to Ayrsley sometimes because the pasta and pizza is just that good at Portofino's
