Hey Guys,
my aunt and Uncle are coming for a visit for my birthday the end of september..the problem is he only likes Upscale places and well we dont know of any..we are looking in Charlotte.. He is treating for dinner...lol...since its his birthday and My birthday...with that being said can anyone recommend a nice place GOOD FOOD Id love not to go uptown but if we had too it would be ok...and well My children will be joining us as well as they love good as well, and we always do my birthday together with the kids and without kids..so...
Villa Antonio would be my suggestion. I've only been to the one in Ballantyne. The food, atmosphere and general area is top notch. I would suggest eating desert there or taking a stroll to Kilwins for chocolate and / or ice cream. There's a Villa Antonio also on South Blvd if that's more to your liking. There is another Italian restaurant that used to be called Campania on Rea Rd. in Piper Glen (in the Trader Joes shopping center), I'm not sure what it is called now, but it's sure to be "higher end" I haven't been there so maybe someone else can chime in. Lastly, Maggianos in Southpark is more "family style" but the food is good and plentiful and is more of a fun atmosphere.
There are plenty of great steak places (Capital Grille, Mortons, Sullivans, and of course my favorite Ruth's Chris) but as for Italian.... Villa Antonio is ok... You can try Luce in uptown..... or Toscana in southpark.
I'm your woman, I am the resident restaurant expert, haha.
I echo Villa Antonio, but the South Blvd one always feels less upscale since it is right next door to a Pier One. Ballantyne has a better feel.
I enjoy Brio in SouthPark. It has a great feel and good food as does Maggianos at SouthPark Mall. Personally, I would go with Maggianos.
For a non-italian restaurant, try Bentley's and Blue. I like to take visitors to each one because both are uptown, more upscale, and Bentley gives and AMAZING view for out-of-towners.
Here's a link to the "Top 10" rated Italian restaurants in Charlotte. You can't really go wrong with any of these. Mama Ricotta's is yummy, but has a more casual atmosphere. I can vouch for Toscana, Villa Antonio (I'd go with the Ballantyne location), and Volare. All delicious! Haven't been to the others but have heard good things about all of them. Increasingly recognized for its unique contribution to American dining, the McNinch House recently won its ninth consecutive Four Diamond designation from AAA, is listed as one of the top “extraordinary” restaurants by Zagat’s Dining guide
But there is NO menu!

At the beginning of each week, our chef will set a list of 6-8 entrees to prepare. For those who have reservations with us that week, we communicate these entrees via e-mail or fax. The list is then circulated amongst their guests, everyone pre-selects their entree, then replies back to us with their choices. Along with that are the other six courses including an appetizer, soup, salad, sorbet, the entree you select, a cheese course and a dessert which are all made fresh the day of your reservation. This will allow us customize your menu to their particular tastes, if necessary.
Be prepared to spend $125 per person ($89 per person plus tip) though, not including alcohol.
But for a great price and GREAT food and service, try Mickey and Mooch. I prefer the Huntersville one over the Arboretum, but both are fine choices.
