My daughter is in intestinal failure and dependent on parenteral nutrition. She has a GI motility specialist in Boston we will continue to travel up here to see periodically but need a local GI (among other things). He has a colleague he wants us to see at UNC hospital. I know that's not a children's hospital. Not sure which location he is at. We are used to traveling an hour to 90 minutes now for doctors appointments. But does UNC have a good reputation overall? For pediatrics?

Thank you!
UNC Hospital will be a 2.5 hour drive from Waxhaw without traffic. Is that local enough?

Unless OP is referring to CMC-University in Charlotte?

Is the job in "Yorkmount" the same one that was in "North Charlotte" earlier? The only Yorkmount that I'm aware of is in SW Charlotte. Although I guess coming full circle that would be closer to some of the areas recommended by the realtor.

Yes it is. I was going by what I was being told. Don't know the area very well yet.

Google map directions, time and mileage:

Map from Waxhaw, North Carolina to Carolinas HealthCare System University, 8800 N Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28262
44 min (36.8 mi) via I-485 Outer

48 min (39.0 mi) via I-485 Inner and I-77 N

52 min (32.2 mi) via E W.T. Harris Blvd

This coincides with my personally observed travel times. (I use I-485 to HWY 29 exit, 95% of the time, the other 5% I use HWYU 49 exit.)

I can depend upon 50-55 minutes from Downtown Waxhaw to CMC University in moderate to low traffic hours. If you live on the Charlotte side of Waxhaw in the multitude of available neighborhoods, the travel time could be slightly less.

During heavy traffic hours that could double, mostly because of the traffic from Waxhaw to I-485.

^I think the OP meant the job is in Yorkmount by the airport, not that the hospital recommended is actually CMC University.

Ah! Upon closer examination, that could be true. Wonder at this point who is more confused... me or the OP? LOL

FYI right now is a good time to look at traffic flows. 5:23PM rush hour.

Yorkmount Rd office parks in West Charlotte to Waxhaw's northern addresses is estimated at 48 minutes.

To downtown Waxhaw from Yorkmount is estimated at 53 minutes.

You might want to look at Fort Mill, SC. Estimated travel time is 27 minutes from the West Charlotte Yorkmount office parks at current rush hour flow.

Belmont, NC is also a nice area and is estimated at 22 minutes from Yorkmount office parks right now.

Also note that commute times increase once school starts and less people are away on vacation.

Thanks. Yes the job is in the Yorkmount neighborhood. I was looking at Belmont. The realtor claims schools aren't as good as Waxhaw.

I've googled the time it would take him from his office to a home I really liked in Concord and it showed about 30 min, no traffic, no matter what time of day I put in. But he says when he drove there to check it out after work it took him close to an hour. Blames it on "2 lane highways" in that area.

Honestly, I am very confused.
I will see better when I get down there again.
Thanks

If your husband is working in Charlotte, send him to test drive multiple locations. Include Belmont, Cramerton, the SE corner of Gastonia, & Kings Mountain, but you have to look at which schools are involved. Kings Mountain is in 2 counties. You want Kings Mountain schools in Kings Mountain. If you live in Gaston County the kids can be eligible to apply to Highland Tech HS. It's a highly-rated magnet school.

You need to check for school ratings online. Keep in mind that NC schools are rated against NC schools. The SC schools are rated against SC schools, even though they are in the same metro.
