Hi everyone!
I'm moving to Charlotte next month and just need to know how is the public transportation system there...more like nyc where you can rely on buses and trains to get around or more like LA where everyone has to own a car?
Looking forward to your replies.
Yes, the burbs are spread out. Anywhere in or close to the city though you can get around on public transit. C.A.T.S. is our area's transit system web site.
I disagree unless the "burbs" is outside of mecklenburg county.
You can about anywhere around the county using the bus system.
I live in Huntersville when I moved here and use to use the system I had no problems getting anywhere within in Charlotte.
My suggestion is to reduce bus times and layovers is to live closest to uptown or live and work on the same bus line. (Uptown is where the main hub is)
For instance I use to live on the south side but worked on the west side and with layover included it would take me 2 hours.
Most of the buses have bike racks in case you live in a neighborhood down the road from a bus stop.
The buses are safe (video cameras on all of them) they are clean and very reliable even in snow conditions. Bus systems in other cities I have been unreliable but I never had to wait for a bus longer than five minutes past it schedule time.
