The OP said that the noise was louder than a drone & when I read about the fly-over in that exact area, it seemed like a possible explanation.

They were calling the game the first annual 'Patriotism Bowl'. Two Navy T-45's, which were referenced previously, performed the fly-over.

Here's the link for the article about the football game...
This would have been fun to attend, or to at least have parked somewhere close enough to the stadium to see the action!
Would have beat running to the window saying, "What in the heck was THAT?"
But at least it was fun City-data fodder!

I wonder if there will be an opportunity to see AF-1 when it comes in?
If you are ever in Wilmington, NC, during the week, and close to the airport, you might see AF-1 (or one of them) come in.... They practice their "touch and go" landings there a lot. I guess they have to practice a certain number of times a month or something, but when we lived down that way, we used to see that happening regularly, and also would hear the fighter jets zooming around....heard them before we ever could see them, and then they were just zooming dots overhead!
